My oral family history includes stories of a Scottish ancestor lost at sea, or fighting in the Seminole conflicts in Florida but never returning home. Sketchy details of coming from New England, but no solid family connections. This book may give you clues that will uncover some secrets in your genealogy.
Frankly, I chose this book not expecting a lot. However, there is a lot of useful information presented in a folksy and interesting way that engages the reader throughout. I am fairly experienced in this area but still found it informative. Someone with less experience will be thankful for the information presented so well. Good Job!
The material herein is easily found elsewhere. It reads like a jr high school report and is filled with credulous statements. One's uncle smokes a pipe so that's a clue to his ancestry? One likes to dig weeds with a knife -- must be an Indian digging stick! Must be carrying the DNA of a Native American! Please... The valid part of the book are the URLs, but the genealogy advice is sparse and very very very elementary.
It is also a concise guide to Native American history in the United States. It addresses the problems associated with the "Black Indians" and the whole question of the complexity of mixed blood.
There are a great deal of references provided in the book for further research. I purchased the Kindle edition. I’m glad I purchased this book.
Excellent. Lots of resources provided and some history as well.
Quite a few tips in this little book and references to web sites.
