I could not be more ecstatic then I am right now! I have only begun to read this book, attempting to heal, already giving it 5 stars, specifically for one reason. The book focuses on practice, strategy and developing behaviors to manage anxiety. It's not just about shoving a pill down your throat. I have been diagnosed with generalized anxiety, bipolar disorder 1, ADHD and depression. I can honestly say that anxiety falls even with Bipolar regarding how disruptive it can be in your life. My family jokes that I am a pharmacist, as I can tell them what a medication is normally and tell them what it is for. That should tell you how much medication I have been on which does not include the spinal issues I have, more medication in my cabinet for that then I would like.I am sick of medication being the first thing people think of for an illness. What people tend to forget is anxiety, along with the others I listed and more, are life long illnesses. Medication alone will not help anyone. Arlin gets it! Early in the book you will focus on identifying behaviors or triggers. This information is priceless! I have had to do the same with Bipolar and it has changed my life! Once you are able to identify your triggers, you will be able to cope better in some situations as simply just avoiding it!I am so very excited to finish this book and will update the review if I deem it necessary. However, I don't see that happening. Thank you Arlin for writing such an amazing tool for those of us who suffer from this illness. Take care and thank you again!
This book is great for self discovery. Four stars only because I was hoping to learn a skill set to combat anxiety but have found this is more of a book to learn about myself. I do enjoy it and have partnered it with professional help so the two together seem to work well.
I like this book a lot. It’s sectioned into an intro and 7 weeks of guided CBT. It’s interactive enough that I don’t lose focus, and informational and clear enough that it’s very easily readable.
I think this is written and designed very well and am enjoying using it. I’m not doing it the in 7 week timeframe but it’s still helpful in many ways. Highly recommended to help you find ways (CBT, etc) to help control your anxiety.
I knew I was feeling typical mom stress and that I tend to be a bit of a worry wart, but I didn't realize just how much anxiety I carry around until I read this book. WOW. I can relate to so many of the personal stories and feelings described in the book. I also realized that many of the physical symptoms I regularly experience are probably related to the anxiety.Luckily, this books gives lots of great advice on how to manage anxiety. There are many places to write down thoughts, feelings, and fears. There are strategies on identifying and conquering various types of anxiety, coping with the symptoms of anxiety, preventing relapse, and lots more.I truly think this is a fantastic book for anyone battling anxiety, from those who feel anxious only sometimes to those with full-blown panic attacks. It's not only a huge help for handling anxiety, but it also helps you feel less alone with you read other people's stories. Sometimes that connection and understanding is all you need!I received a free copy of this book from the publisher for my review. All opinions are my own!
Bought this for a family member. She loved it as it helps her through some of her most trying days and gives her helpful coping skills.
